Why the pre-market session matters

The hours before the 9:30 open are where the day's biggest stories first show up. Earnings, FDA decisions, guidance, analyst moves and overnight news all hit the tape in pre-market, and the stocks reacting hardest — the gappers and high relative-volume names — are often the day's best (and riskiest) opportunities. A good pre-market scanner turns that chaos into a ranked, filterable list.

What separates a real scanner from a cheap one

The feed. A scanner is only as accurate as the data it reads. TradeScaner runs on the full SIP consolidated feed — effectively 100% of US trades — so relative volume, prices and gaps reflect the entire market, not the small slice a budget IEX-only tool sees. Low-float movers that trade off-exchange simply don't get missed.

From mover to plan

Spotting a mover is step one. TradeScaner's Today's Picks goes further: it scores qualifying setups with a calibrated machine-learning win-probability model and hands you exact entry, stop and targets, sized to your budget. See how it works, or read about the win-probability model.

Pre-market scanner FAQ

What is a pre-market scanner?

A pre-market scanner watches the early trading session (4:00–9:30 AM ET in the US) and surfaces the stocks moving most before the regular open — gap-ups, gap-downs, high relative-volume names and news-driven movers — so you can build a watchlist before 9:30.

What hours does the pre-market session cover?

US pre-market runs from 4:00 AM to 9:30 AM ET. TradeScaner scans the full window and also covers regular hours, after-hours and a full-day view, so you see each session's movers separately.

What data does the scanner use?

The full SIP (Securities Information Processor) consolidated feed — effectively 100% of US trades — streamed in real time. Cheaper tools often use the partial IEX feed, which can badly understate volume and miss low-float movers.

How are movers ranked?

By absolute percentage change and relative volume (RVOL) — the strongest momentum tell — with gainers, decliners and most-liquid views. You can filter by exchange and security type, and every mover links to news and catalyst data.

Does it cost money?
